Bay Adelaide Centre West Tower (Brookfield, 50s, WZMH)

Besides the obvious things, what is it like in an office tower compared to, say, a 5-story office block? (seriously)

Globe: Gun Crime Down This Year

I oppose discrimination except when used in "racial profiling"; It is clear (at least in Cincinnati) that the vast majority of shooting victims and suspects are black. I'll agree that criminals come from all races and backgrounds, but if most of them come from one race, the race should be...

O, Canada! More Americans Heading North

article More Americans heading North U.S. immigration to Canada at 30-year high, but fewer Canadians moving to United States Aug 06, 2007 04:30 AM Tim Harper Washington Bureau WASHINGTON–It was a popular vow of apprehensive Democrats in 2004, a pledge made in the heat of battle to move to...

NY's "subway" mayor is chauffeured to subway station

I don't think "anybody else" who rides the subway is chauffeured to a distant subway station in two SUVs. Speaking of his presidential nomination, i don't think any president would get around by any means other than bulletproof limousine to prevent assassinations. How does Miller get to city...

MN bridge collapses raises questions about Cdn bridges

They have the "question our own bridges" articles wherever you go; here they have an article about 15 bridges near Cincinnati (one which was built in the 1860s). As for the honeymoon bridge collapse, was anybody on it when it fell?

    Transit City Details

Although they're definetly not going to alter the clrvs, the new streetcars have doors on both sides by default and it might work out (of course, the real issue is that they're not going to do it)

^that way they have room for left turn lanes.

    GTTA Transit Reports

From the second report, it seems that the GTTA still has the Sheppard extension to Downsview/SCC on its mind.

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

Clearly I'm alone in my boat here, but the Minneapolis-Bombardier example streetcar looks better than the examples of "beautiful" ones; it doesn't have sharp edges, it's more modern looking than the examples, and has huge inconspicuous windows.

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

If there's seven VIA stations where the surrounding areas are served by Presto-participating transit agencies, it could probably participate in the program (I thought there were only two stations)

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

I don't think it should be valid on VIA because it isn't a GTA transit agency; most commuters who use VIA commute from areas outside the GTA. Unless Guelph and the areas served by other nearby VIA stations participate in Presto, the VIA commuters who commute from there should not either...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

If they do that, they should have some way of checking fare when transferring between the streetcar and subway; it would be too easy to just get on one stop before the station and ride into the "safe" area to grab a transfer.

    Avonshire (Yonge/401, Tridel/K&G, 14 + 21 + 3x 22s, Kirkor) COMPLETE

Even the Gardiner isn't exactly a "canyon" when driving through it; many of the areas surrounding it are still largely low-rise.

    MoveOntario 2020: GO Transit Electrification

I think that just converting the Diesel locomotives to Electric is the best way to go. Look at all the major commuter rail systems in North America - Chicago and New York all have electrified commuter rail with real trains (i think). Converting the Lakeshore line to single-floor units with 15...

    MoveOntario 2020

I noticed that they plan to build the BRT plan for finch-steeles-langstaff AND the subway extension (does this sound familiar anyone?)

    Brampton Transit/Zum

I don't believe there is a plan right now; just a statement in the rapid transit plan that says "higher order transit on Hurontario". Secondly, It would only make sense for it to reach Port Credit GO, unless the QEW crossing is a problem.

    Garbage: Pay-as-you-throw

In upstate New York they had a similar "pay-as-you-throw" system where you paid incremently more for a larger garbage bin. But since it was a "it's always been this way" kind of system, nobody was protesting. I'm not sure how much garbage cost to throw before the system though.

    Know yer architecture (in Cincinnati)

Are the historic buildings here that much different from that in Toronto? I've noticed that TO has a lot of Victorian architecture while I didn't see that in the Historic Preservation website (except for 'Victorian Vernacular', which doesn't seem to resemble anything in TO). I'm assuming it...

    More HOV lanes for highways

GO is still running an hourly service on the Lakeshore west corridor? I thought they have 15 minute intervals during rush hour.

Star: TO unlikely to follow NYC's green taxi road
