OLG Toronto/GTA casino proposal (where to put it?)

vaughan is smart enough, unlike toronto, to get a casino and will benefit from it. new york has a casino, same with montreal and every other major city in canada. toronto has to grow up and stop being so boring, like adam vaughan. people like to different things.
 
Actually, there's a casino in *NYC*--but it sure ain't in Manhattan: it's at Aqueduct Race Track, at the far edge of Queens. Which'd be like Woodbine here.

Had we had a real leader in the mayor's office, a real suburban conservative-moderate, I think council could be brought to support a Woodbine expansion to a full casino as a compromise that would deep-six a downtown casino. Given that there's slots there already, the harm of adding card tables and roulette wheels would be minimal compared having a brand new facility, while providing the local benefits that Woodbine Live was supposed to bring with preferential construction and staffing jobs to the local community.

I do agree with this, but one also has to ask why we should support councilors whose number one priority is to spite Ford and not what is best for the City.

It has little to do with spiting Ford and more his utter inability to influence a vote that he could (should?) have won.

this is why a change in the cities political structure has to change. It should be more like the federal government where the whole party votes for what they believe in and then things would start moving in toronto. better transit, roads, and business, revenue.
 
There are many reasons for proposing changes to the way the city is governed, and whether the ward system is still appropriate or not. But to suggest that the casino issue is why we should have that debate makes for pretty faulty argument.

Semantics. He "IS" for it and it probably will happen.

In the GTA a casino will be put in Vaughan (because a certain minority premier needs all the help they can get and are pandering to the 905 Vaughan Liberals....who will get a casino in return for helping the lame duck premier). And all the "gambling addicts" will take the TTC up to gamble away their welfare checks.

When the phrase in question (and I'm talking about johnwood, not Cuomo, in case you didn't notice) is "there is a casino in manhatten!", it ain't just semantics. In the present tense, there *is* no casino in Manhatten, or Manhattan, or wherever...

All the more reason to charge an extra fare to get to Vaughan! I don't think a casino was in the zoning when Toronto agreed to provide subway service to that location at the normal fare.
