Quite amazing! Kudos to the people who took the initiative to clean up this basin help to bring it back. I've always thought this basinwas a lost opportunity in so many ways. The location is prime and seen by many who live here plus visitors so the upkeep was/is an embarrassment. The City dropped the ball here along with so many other public spaces.

"A group of volunteers have come together to transform a water basin sitting at the foot of downtown Toronto condo building. CBC's Haydn Watters found out why. "

Strange video. Why would anyone want to swim in this small water basin, which is, by its nature and design, a catch basin for all the garbage floating in Lake Ontario? Notice the comments on this CBC video are turned off.

I really can't believe this basin was designed to to be a 'catch basin for all the garbage floating in Lake Ontario'. Even if it was the powers at be should be responsible for maintaining the 'catch basin' and ensuring it is cleared of flotsam and jetsam' whether human caused or natural.By saying that I do not mean the folks who want to swim here. I think that's a very noble cause.

It is NOT a 'catch basin' though it certainly has not got much water flow and once flotsam gets there it cannot really get out and god knows what is lying on the bottom of it . Another problem is that parts of the concrete surround are very deteriorated with exposed rebar etc. Parks (who are responsible for it) told me 18 months ago they were 'hoping' to repair the concrete but I do not think they have done so. Certainly great to have it cleaner but I would not swim there - definitely not today!

Let's first get the basin get it cleaner given the years of neglect... I think it's the right step in the right direction to keep public spaces nice and tidy.

I think the volunteers still have alot of cleaning and upkeep to do!

^The level of edge lord trolling back in the days where they left the comments on everything was mind numbing, to put it mildly...so this is not surprising, at all.
