I am curious as to why they are starting, if any construction, like you said it would not make any sence to do just this intersection of the project
Will be a new design based on the new ones on the 401 to the west.Thanks. It's been a while since MTO rebuilt an On-Route, I wonder if they will go with the same design they built the rest of them out as 10-15 years ago or if it will be a new design.
So why they tear down the 1990’s service centre building unlike the ingersoll and Newcastle locations where they just rebuild the gas station?Enroute reconstruction off the 400 North of Major Mack

I wonder if it will be renamed "Vaughan" from "Maple" as that would make sense in the modern context of Vaughan. Most people will most likely start thinking of this area as being Woodbridge anyways (although that's ridiculously stretching it, but that's Vaughan for you) as it gets developed given its location on the west side of the 400.Enroute reconstruction off the 400 North of Major Mack
Technically Maple is on the East side of the 400
MTO is rebuilding the QEW through the Freeman interchange and will be adding a central barrier and the highway platform to extend the HOVs through right to the Skyway in the next 2-3 years.I've been thinking about the Skyway and Freeman interchange the the general high level of congestion caused through downtown Burlington during rush hour. I know there is eventual plans to rebuild the full interchange to add capacity, but I feel in the short term more can be done to reduce spill-over to local streets.
Has there ever been a proposal to close the North Shore on/off ramps to the QEW? Closing the two on ramps would go a long way to keeping traffic off of lakeshore as a way to bypass the interchange, especially Niagara bound. The other advantage of closing the Niagara bound on-ramp, is it would allow for the closure of the Eastport/Northshore collectors entry back onto the skyway, making that split an exit-only to Eastport. Closing the Toronto bound QEW off ramp to Northshore would allow the 4 through lanes on the skyway to continue through to the interchange, pushing the pinch point a little further along and off of the skyway.
It feels to me like these ramps are not overly necessary with the Fairview and Eastport options providing suitable alternates that can better handle the total amount of traffic.
MTO has a website for the project:This must be an enormous cost (also what a disaster this route will be for 2-3 years)!

When will the highway be widened with additional traffic lanes shown in the previous Freeman Interchange Preliminary Design EA Study?
The QEW will be widened from the vicinity of Brant Street to the vicinity of Fairview Street to accommodate traffic staging during construction. However, there will be no additional lanes implemented as part of this undertaking. It is MTO’s intention to widen the QEW beyond Guelph Line for High-Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes as part of the “Interim” QEW widening plan. However, these HOV lanes cannot be opened until the Canadian National Railway (CNR) overhead structure west of Guelph Line is also widened to accommodate these additional lanes. Although the widening of this CNR overhead is beyond the scope of this project, the bridge will be widened in the near future subject to availability of construction funding and MTO securing environmental approvals at a Detail Design level.
MTO technically has plans to eventually widen the newer Skyway bridge (Niagara-Bound) to add HOVs for both directions - but they haven't done the EA for it. It would likely cost hundreds of millions to do.Could a lane on the Burlington Skyway be cannibalized and converted to HOV? That way you could eventually run HOVs all the way to the 406, perhaps 405 if somehow pushed through St Cathrines as the Garden City Skyway twinning should be able to handle it.
Seeing these OnRoute pictures makes me wish they would get serious about building some locations north of Barrie. And rebuild Highway 11 to full freeway status between Barrie and Gavernhurst. That route was a death trap during the thanksgiving weekend.Enroute reconstruction off the 400 North of Major Mack
