If they had simply used a darker material on the tower relative to the columns, this could have been slightly less bad.

...another thing on how this "upgrade" has seemingly diminished the size and its imposing'ness. Thus it looks and feels neutered and spayed compared to what it was before, IMO.
 
This recladding project is a good candidate for the worst of its kind in the city's history. Sure, they wanted to freshen a tower that was never that remarkable. That wasn't difficult on its own. But to throw together something so simultaneously jarring, generic, and sterile kitty corner from the city's main public square is quite the feat.

The ground level is awful. You'd think someone would have realized that big blank walls on the south side of Queen Street are a problem, like with the Sheraton Centre or the deadening Queen Street facade of the Four Seasons Centre. Unfortunately, not.
