SmartTrack (Proposed)

Good. Regardless of Smarttrack Go RER etc etc this is a good place for a station and should happen.
Lived on baylawn when I was 6. Great place for Toronto to focus on public transit. You can take the smarttrack to eat at taco bell and pizzahut.

I hope the Stouffville stations don't see any service prior to the introduction of express trains from the existing stations. Our commutes have gotten significantly longer over the years already.

Considering the GO RER stations wont have platforms long enough for the existing fleet, (half that, 6 car train size) its a mandatory component. Theres no way your train could stop if it wanted to at any GO-RER station.

Most likely they wont stop at any stations south of Unionville. Perhaps at off-peak, but the expectation is that on-peak (commute hours) Trains from Lincolnville will hit all stops south until Unionville and then bypass everything to Union. The reason being that there simply isnt room in the schedule for them to stop, all available trackage in that area will be used up by RER trains.

Thanks for the explanation! Aside from Kennedy, there isn't much point in having the non-RER runs stop at any stations south of Unionville (or perhaps Milliken), so having this split between "traditional GO" and RER would serve the needs of everyone pretty well.

Kennedy will probably continue to be a stop, you are right, if possible, because it will be a "hub" with Line 2, Line 5, etc.

Does this announcement mean SmartTrack is going to happen?

The station additions are now fully funded (subject to price increases as engineering progresses).

Fare integration hasn't been committed to however Metrolinx/TTC are preparing a business case to replace the provincial integration funding (the $1.50 trip subsidy) with a different funding source so that process might lead somewhere.

Service levels will be adjusted to handle whatever ridership shows up to use the line, as GO and TTC do with all their services.

Even simply adding more stations within the city to GO can make the commute better.

What kind of ridership is Finch Kennedy expected to have? Can't be high if they're not planning any parking, no fare integration and little redevelopment potential.

The Finch East bus can bring in quite a few riders for the trains. Certainly, that would be more effective with fare integration in place.

So is this map accurate?

Yes, the blue SmartTrack stations have been funded on that map. The green "GO" stations are provincial responsibility without a city contribution (not part of this announcement).

The dollar value received matches the amount the TTC reported it was applying for in April for the "SmartTrack Stations Program" and "Bloor Capacity Improvement" as outlined in the below documents.

Main report: https://www.toronto.ca/legdocs/mmis/2019/ex/bgrd/backgroundfile-131545.pdf
Appendix (with most of the detail): https://www.toronto.ca/legdocs/mmis/2019/ex/bgrd/backgroundfile-131525.pdf

Note: PTIF2 applications are made via Infrastructure Ontario. The province needs to pass along those applications to the federal government to receive funding. Line 2 East and DRL were killed by the province (Ford), and were not received by the federal government as part of the request.

The Finch East bus is going to see a huge amount of relief from this station. Right now anybody going downtown is riding all the way to Yonge. Between Victoria Park and Kennedy you may even get some riders switching to go counter-peak to get to/from Finch East Station.
