TTC: Other Items (catch all)

TTC removing Sunday-only bus stops by June 19

June 15, 2016

The TTC is removing all remaining 28 Sunday-only bus stops by June 19. Last year, the TTC removed all 41 Sunday-only streetcar stops in the city.

Sunday stops, which were established in the 1920s to reduce walking distance to nearby churches, are, at an average of about 125 metres away, too close to existing adjacent regular stops - transportation best practices state that bus stops should be 300 to 400 metres apart. The TTC is removing the stops for safety reasons as well, as none are located at signalized intersections or crosswalks.

Notices about the removal of the Sunday bus stops have been posted at all Sunday-only bus stop locations, and all nearby churches have been notified by letter.

To improve pedestrian safety and customer journey times, the TTC is also removing 13 streetcar stops by June 19 and relocating another 28 stops along Broadview Avenue, Dundas Street West, Gerrard Street East, Kingston Road, King Street East, King Street West, McCaul Street, Queen Street East and Queen Street West this year.

The recommendations for TTC stop improvements and modifications were made after consultation with City Councillors, TTC's Customer Liaison Panel and the Advisory Committee on Accessible Transit.

The eastbound stop at where Dundas and College connect will be taken out of service on June 19. This will see the eastbound shelter being relocated somewhere else.

Unless notices have gone up for the eastbound King Stop Mowat Ave since I was last there a few days ago, I am surprise it not being relocated to Joe Shuster Way, a block east with the start of 514 this Sunday. Maybe been held off until a shelter is built for this new stop.

June 6th came and went, and despite some indications that the CLRVs would be back along 502/503 for the summer, the bus replacement service remains. I'm starting to wonder if we'll ever see streetcars on Kingston Rd. again.

Yes, Monday June 20th has been the plan for a while...not sure how you got June 6th. See here http://www.ttc.ca/Service_Advisories/Service_changes/jun503.jsp

There is no June 6th schedule change, and TTC only does major vehicle type changes with schedule changes. The closest to June 6th is June 19th/20th.

Buses to replace streetcars on 512 St Clair route until December

June 16, 2016

Starting June 19, TTC accessibility and infrastructure work at St Clair and St Clair West stations and along St. Clair Ave. W. will require the 512 St Clair streetcars to be temporarily replaced by buses. The work at the stations includes installation of a new roof and replacement of the streetcar loading platform at St Clair Station, and construction of new elevators and streetcar track replacement at St Clair West Station.

Much of this work is required to prepare for the new, accessible streetcars, which are scheduled to begin operating on St. Clair Avenue in 2018.

In addition to the work inside the stations, work on the streetcar platforms on the streetcar right-of-way (ROW) will necessitate the 512 replacement buses to operate on St Clair Ave. in mixed traffic. The TTC is working with the City to co-ordinate traffic light timing to improve traffic flow.

The TTC has produced a video to explain these complex projects and their impacts on service. It can be viewed on the TTC's official YouTube channel:
.

June 19 to September 4

- 512 St Clair buses will replace streetcars along the entire route, operating on St Clair Ave.
- 90 Vaughan buses will be re-routed to Bathurst Station instead of St Clair West Station.

September 4 to December

- Streetcars will return to the western portion of the 512 St Clair route between St Clair West Station and Gunn's Loop (Keele St.).
- 512 St Clair buses will continue to replace streetcars between St Clair West and St Clair stations.

For the duration of this work, 512 St Clair buses will operate as proof-of-payment (POP) and PRESTO card readers will be on buses.

For full details on all related service changes, including bus boarding locations for the 512 St Clair buses and other routes (90 Vaughan, 88 South Leaside, 74 Mt Pleasant, 126 Christie and 33 Forest Hill), please view the online Construction Notice.

Saw the following "caution: look right" signs on a CLRV and LFLRV today--interesting that they finally thought to do this:
