We are now one week into our Year-End Readers' Poll, giving you the chance to select your favourite buildings completed in 2016. With many hundreds of votes already counted, there is still plenty of time left to have your say before the polls close on December 20th. This year's pool of candidates has been divided into three categories; 20 to 53 metre-high buildings, 53 to 105 metre-high buildings, and 105 to 200 metre-high buildings.

As of this afternoon, over 747 people have responded to our survey, and just one week in, clear frontrunners have emerged from each of the three categories. With over 24% of the vote in the TALL: 105-200 metres category, Mattamy Homes and Goldman Group's Picasso Condos has a good lead over the rest of its height class. The 39-storey, Teeple Architects-designed condominium tower's distinctive red, white, and black exterior has helped the project assert an individual identity against the primarily glass-clad condominium developments of the surrounding Entertainment District. In second place with nearly 16% of the vote, is the tallest building to complete in 2016, Brookfield's Bay Adelaide Centre East Tower, designed by KPMB and Adamson Associates.

A wider gap has emerged in our TALL-ish: 53-105 metres category, where First Gulf's Globe and Mail Centre leads by quite a margin: the 17-storey, Diamond Schmitt Architects-designed office tower on King Street East currently holds over 38% of the votes, with Harhay Developments and Carttera Private EquitiesCore Architects-designed oneeleven Condominiums in second place at over 11%.

The lead in our WELL GROUNDED: 20-53 metres category is a closer race than our two taller categories, with the top spot currently held by Gairloch Developments and Centrestone Urban Developments Inc.'s 383 Sorauren Avenue. The 10-storey, architectsAlliance-designed boutique condominium development's detailed brick exterior has been a crowd favourite over the past several months on our Forum, with over 25% of the votes cast for it. In a close second with 18% of respondents is DundeeKilmer's Canary District Condominiums' design by KPMB Architects. It has now edged past Symmetry DevelopmentsTeeple Architects-designed Origami Lofts, which sits in a close third place with nearly 14% of the votes.

Meanwhile, our sister site SkyriseCalgary's year-end poll is also well underway. The inaugural poll covers not just completed buildings, but under-construction projects too, and Calgary's all-time best buildings.
