From its inception in 1989, Teeple Architects Inc. has built a reputation for innovative design and exceptional service. The firm established this reputation through a broad range of institutional, commercial and residential projects, community and recreation centres, libraries, schools and university buildings. The firm has become known for designing projects of exceptional materials and quality, with a strong conceptual basis derived from the specific needs and aspirations of each client.
The office has explored themes such as the integration of architecture and site; diversity of spatial composition; the interconnection of landscape and built form as well as translucency and transparency in spatial composition. These themes have been expressed through subtle compositions of material and texture and careful articulation to detail.
We believe that the ramifications of sustainable practice reach beyond the sphere of good practice to inform the conceptual essence of each work of architecture. We see sustainable design as a provocation for rethinking the art of architecture. In the work of Teeple Architects, environmentally conscious design has become an integral consideration in the formulation of architectural ideas and in the spatial experience embodied in each completed project.
Teeple Architects has received five Governor General’s Awards, Canada’s top architectural recognition. These were for the Scarborough Chinese Baptist Church (Toronto, 2008), The Chemical Sciences Building (Trent University, 2008), the Addition to the Albert A. Thornbrough Building – College of Engineering & Physical Sciences (University of Guelph, 2002), the Burt C. Matthews Hall Addition (University of Waterloo, 1997) and the Trent University Childcare Centre (Trent University, 1994). The firm is also regularly recognized by the Canadian design community with awards from the Ontario Association of Architects, Canadian Architect Award of Excellence, the Design Exchange and various municipal governments.
