Creating a good first impression is key to so many things in life, and that's as true from building a new relationship as it is for transactions when large sums are involved. As home purchases normally represent the largest outlay the average person will make, building awareness of a new offering in Toronto's busy development scene is an extremely important one, and it's typically overseen by some of the industry's most creative thinkers.

For this edition of Insider Q&A, we spoke with the delightful Shellianne Bedder, who is currently serving as the Director of Marketing and Sales for Spice Urban Towns. The new townhome community in southwest Scarborough we have been covering celebrated its launch this past weekend.

Shellianne Bedder, Director of Marketing and Sales for Spice Urban Towns

UT: How did you start in the business?

SB: My dad was in the business before me. He sold land to the developers. He told me that if I went into real estate I could make lots of money and never have to work, (I work 24/7!!!) but he never told me it was addictive!

Describe your role in as Director of Marketing and Sales.

I am involved in every aspect of the project from conceptual to completion.

Tell us about the current project you're working on.

The ‘flavour’ of the moment is called SPICE! It's a fabulous 116 stacked townhouse development in a gentrifying area of Scarborough, designed with a contemporary look for first time buyers and step-down owners who want to live in a residential neighbourhood, but still be part of the action and be able to get downtown in a hurry!

Could you share some of your work inspirations?

We travel to all parts of the world and I get inspired by so much that I see in so many different countries, and I like put that into the marketing and design of everything I do here in Toronto.

Any future plans you'd like to tell us about?

We are working on putting together other similar projects like Spice, as this type of residential is becoming the in-demand style of living.

What is your take on the state of the Toronto housing market?

We are fortunate to live in a city that is vibrant with so many different ethnic neighbourhoods, and there is a constant demand for housing here so the market has remained very healthy with no signs of slowing down.

What is your favourite recent project in Toronto?

Regency Yorkville! Although we had developed that nearly 10 years ago, it still maintains the everlasting '40s New York Deco feel, and the suites are still very much in demand but rarely come up for sale.

Who do you follow on Twitter?

I’m not a twitter girl. I’m a travel junkie, so I’m constantly reading travel magazines and following new hotels and resorts around the world.

Favourite thing to do in this city?

I love to be in town on the long weekends for our fabulous hot summers — Toronto becomes the city I grew up in— with no traffic!

Favourite restaurant?

My favourite restaurants are Banfi in Forest Hill Village (the best Italian food in the world), Pukka on St. Clair (the best Indian food in the world) and Jacobs on Brant (the classiest and tastiest steak house in the world)!

Argos, Blue Jays, FC, Maple Leafs or Raptors?

Go Blue Jays Go!!!

We thank Shellianne for taking the time to answer our questions. We will return soon with another Q&A session with one of the many insiders in Toronto's development scene.
