It was in February when we last checked in on the construction progress of Plaza's Ivory on Adelaide, a new condominium development being built on Adelaide just east of Sherbourne Street. The recently topped-off Hariri Pontarini Architects-designed development is made up of a 22-storey tower which rises from 7 and 10-storey podiums which address the adjacent buildings to the west and to the north with complementary heights.
The project's striking exterior is composed of ivory-toned precast concrete cladding panels, from which the project draws its name, and a dark-tinted black windows, frames, and spandrel. The treatments combine to create a unique contrast, not just between light and dark, but also between Ivory and its primarily red and buff brick surroundings.
The design's staggered bar code-like pattern of black and white evolves as the tower rises exterior, with newly installed particularly thin vertical piers of white precast now visible gracing the building's mechanical penthouse.
The pattern mutates again, and is writ large on the west side penthouse units. In the image below, the stepped-back two-level completion of the tower adds to the building's overall aesthetic.
Additional Ivory information and plenty of renderings can be found in our dataBase file, linked below. Want to get involved in the discussion? Check out the associated Forum threads, or leave a comment in the space provided at the bottom of this page.
