It's becoming increasingly more difficult to argue that the suburbs around Toronto are exclusively low-rise bedroom communities. While Mississauga is a city and not part of Toronto, it was for a long time considered a commuter town, home to thousands who preferred to live outside the perceived-dangerous and expensive central core. The past decade has seen a boom in construction within Mississauga's city centre, the image below evidencing the intensification that has been under way to the west of Toronto. The skyline is becoming unique unto its own, with towers such as Absolute World increasing recognition of the city's efforts to be independent and unique within the region.
