Isn't Bathurst blocked west of Portland from Bremner making this bridge a huge convenience to those walking north and/or west from CityPlace?

That is correct! Until Bathurst Opens, it will making crossing to Bathurst much easier.

September 09 & 10
I finally got all the photos up on the site and about 100+.

Never got a clean clear shot of the 350 Ton crane, as it arrived after dark and was not on the north side at daylight.

Watching the 600 Ton crawler move about was fun since it been years since I have seen one this size moving the final section like nothing at all.

As for the Bathurst & Fort York connection, it not going to happen until a year or 2 after the Strachan Ave grade separation is completed and money to do it. That will put it about 2016-17.

It looks nicer now (today) with all the cranes gone. It will look even better once the Concord sign is down and its open to the public.

Huh? Bathurst isn't closed, is it? It certainly doesn't run east-west, so I don't know what you mean by it being blocked west of Portland.

That is correct! Until Bathurst Opens, it will making crossing to Bathurst much easier.

Again, huh? what am I missing here?

It could very well be 5 years before that happens.

Until what happens? You guys have got me really confused, since this is the first I've heard about Bathurst being closed. I don't head up Bathurst as often as I do Spadina, so maybe I missed something? They closed it at King about a month or two ago, but that's done with now.

You're all smoking something funny. Bathurst doesn't exist yet :p

Yes, we are referring to Fort York Blvd. where it meets Bathurst.

Got it.

True, but once Fort York IS open, the bridge will serve little real purpose for many in terms of time savings. Having to walk those two long ramps to get on and off the bridge will make the convenience of it only marginally better than Bathurst. You'll shave maybe 3 or 4 minutes off a trip on foot from Cityplace to downtown via the Puente de Luz.

Don't get me wrong, I still love this bridge as it looks good, has a kickass name that honours our rich Spanish heritage (huh?), and it should at least provide a psychological connection across the tracks for the city (which is important, I think). I just wish it could have been planned a bit differently.

If I'm not mistaken, the ramps became necessary to accommodate Go's air rights above the tracks. Shame.

Yeah, the connection points and overall alignment are pretty awkward. Looking forward to using it anyway, though.

I would love to see the bridge align and create a visual connection between Portland Street and Dan Leckie Way (only the ramp entrances occur there), but the location of the bridge looks haphazard just east of this link, with the bridge facing the side of the podium of Parade 2.
Even having the bridge exit between Parade 1 and 2 condos would be spectacular in combination of the residential bridge above and seeing the view of the park beyond.

Currently, the archway that marks the entrance of the ramp at the foot of Portland Street appears very weak, just like the decorative elements that embellish the bridge. It seems all like and afterthought and unnecessary.

The bridge now has even more Concord signage on it so nobody has any doubt that the city ain't paying for it.
