Claude Cormier, the great landscape architect who passed away on September 15, created work all over Toronto. There are splashier, more "signature" spaces than this one, but the work at King Portland Centre is still noteworthy; the Herringbone pattern in the pavers seen in this image by UrbanToronto Forum contributor ProjectEnd is beautiful; it's simple but detailed, striking but elegant. Cormier always managed to balance competing thrusts in his work to a very satisfying end. This one imparts zen-like qualities to what in some other hands could have just felt like leftover space, as opposed to the finishing masterstroke.
