Replacing Toronto's Galleria Mall at Dupont and Dufferin is Almadev's 20-acre, multi-phased redevelopment of Galleria on the Park. The first two towers of the project, Galleria 01 and 02, have been under construction for nearly two years now, having grown by a few levels since our last check-in back at the beginning of May.
The towers share a podium, which is currently five and six storeys above grade. It will continue to rise a couple more floors on one side, and then construction of the tower levels will commence. Designed by Core Architects, the 01 and 02 towers at the west end of the site will rise to 24 and 29 storeys, housing a combined total of 634 units.
Walls of the sixth levels are currently being formed, while the slabs below are being supported by shoring poles while the concrete cures. Fly forms are preparing to welcome the next, and final podium level.
To the east of the 01 and 02 towers at the centre of the Galleria site is the remaining portion of the Galleria Mall, with a grocery store and drug store still open to customers. The parking lot of the stores is currently partially being used as a staging area, housing various construction materials in a fenced-off area.
A new grocery store is to be part of the master-planned community, and will eventually open in the base of the next building, Galleria III, at the east end of the site. In February, a Site Plan Approval application was submitted to the City for it, which is still in review. This building is a 31-storey Hariri Pontarini Architects-designed tower that will bring another 429 condominium units to the community along with retail at its ground level.
