The annual BILD Awards returned last night to celebrate another year of recognizing excellence in the design, construction, marketing, and sales of new homes in the Greater Toronto Area. A group of expert judges determined the winners from the many entries that were submitted. BILD presented awards in the categories of marketing, architectural design, people and sales, and in the prestigious Pinnacle category.
The event was held in person, eight months after the 2021 awards, which were delayed as a result of the pandemic. The 2022 winners include a wide range of developers and architects, with the multi-family project winners included below.
Best New Community, Planned/Under Development: Canary Landing
Developed by Dream Asset Management, Kilmer Group, and Tricon Residential, Canary Landing on Block 8 of the West Don Lands includes three towers of 16, 16, and 26 storeys comprising a total of 756 rental units. The ground floors are to be occupied by townhouses and amenity spaces, with two small retail spaces located in the two westernmost buildings.
Best Community, Built: King George School Lofts and Town Homes
Developed by The Rose Corporation, the 25-unit infill residential development is located in a charming residential neighbourhood within Historic Downtown Newmarket. Surrounded by century homes, an existing 100-year-old school house has been revitalized as 11 luxury condominium residences and with 14 "exquisite" freehold town homes in the former schoolyard.
Project of the Year, Low-Rise: Bloom in Seaton
Developed by Mattamy Homes, The Blossom is a collection of 2-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom, energy-efficient urban townhomes located in Pickering.
Project of the Year, Mid/High-Rise: Grand Festival
Developed by Menkes Developments, Festival's towers and connecting podium will meet a central plaza, consisting of shops, cafes, restaurants, a fitness facility, and a grocery store. The Assembly Park area development in Vaughan's South VMC will be a cultural hub, surrounded by arts and entertainment, including a new community centre and school, and which also encompass 45 acres of parkland and 17km of trails and bike lanes.
Best Mid-Rise Building Design (Pinnacle): Biblio Lofts
Developed by NVSBLE Developments and designed by BDP Quadrangle, Biblio Lofts are a 7-storey mixed-use condominium building on the southwest corner of Queen Street East and Saulter Street in Toronto's Riverdale neighbourhood.
Best High-Rise Building Design (Pinnacle): Cielo Condos
Developed by Collecdev and designed by KPMB Architects, the 29-storey tower is to rise at the site of Bloor Street United Church (BSUC) at the northwest corner of Bloor and Huron streets in the Annex area of Downtown Toronto. First constructed in 1886, the church is to be part of the redevelopment, with the United Church of Canada getting a new head office space here, while the congregation will celebrate in a rebuilt sanctuary. The main level of the building will also include a community hall open to locals at large, while new retail space will front Bloor Street.
