QuadReal Property Group and partner Menkes Developments have announced the official launch of Assembly Park – a master planned, mixed-use development located at Highway 400 between Highways 407 and 7 in the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC). The launch was commemorated with a ribbon cutting ceremony late last week.
Designed by Giannone Petricone Associates and IBI Group, Assembly Park will become a pedestrian-first hub of diverse and modern housing options, office spaces, retail experiences, new schools that will fit up to 700 kids, an extensive network of green parkland, and socially-oriented public spaces.
QuadReal and Menkes have launched and sold the first of several slated residential projects at Assembly Park: Mobilio, designed by Turner Fleischer Architects, which is well under construction, and Festival Condos, designed by IBI Group, which broke ground earlier this year and is set to be completed in late 2024. Also sold are the two towers of Grand Festival. Bravo – the third and final phase of Festival, is the latest to be launched.
Located in the South Vaughan Metropolitan Centre, Assembly Park is well connected to Toronto via Vaughan Metropolitan Centre subway station, as well as the rest of Vaughan, York Region, and Brampton via the Viva and ZUM Bus Rapid Transit hubs that are located at the base of Transit City Condos.
Assembly Park is projected for completion in 2034. Until then, a handful of temporary community spaces called The Studios, The Square, and The Gardens have begun to take shape on the property. These spaces will eventually find permanent homes in new projects as the neighbourhood takes shape.
Last year the community's urban beekeeping hives were put in place, and The Studios were launched. The Studios is a temporary multi-use art and content studio, gallery, event and residency space, and classroom. With 10,000 ft² of programmable indoor community space, this hub of creativity serves as an inspiration point and a tool in continuing the many diverse creative pursuits possible in the Assembly Park community.
In late 2021, a 7,000 ft² mural titled FUTURA by Toronto artist Andre Kan was unveiled, serving as a significant landmark at The Studios.
In mid-November of 2021, Assembly Gardens was put in place. The Gardens are the 1.5 acres of open space, walkways, planting beds, and community gardens. The open area will also serve as a temporary natural gathering space with multi-purpose space for communal dining, culinary festivals, private moments, group yoga, herb, flower, and vegetable gardens, gardening classes, picnics, and more.
The Square is Assembly Park's central public space, offering opportunities for a multitude of uses including beer gardens, farmers' markets, culinary festivals, food trucks, exhibitions and art installations, cultural events, pop-up retail experiences, film screenings, games like chess and table tennis, and community gatherings. Below, we can see The Square being used this past weekend during the ceremony.
As a part of the ribbon cutting ceremony, QuadReal and Menkes also marked a donation of $1 million to the Mackenzie Health Foundation as a commitment to the Vaughan community.
More information on the neighbourhood will come soon, but in the meantime, you can learn more about the developments in it from our Database files for the projects, linked below.
