An area in Downtown Toronto formerly home to a strip of hotel chains will be welcoming a brand new hotel on the northeast corner of Jarvis and Shuter streets. Being built by Manga Hotels, the new tower will house a mix of hotel and residential units, to be known as Hyatt Place and The 203 Residences on Jarvis.

The 32-storey mixed-use, IBI Group-designed development has been under construction since November, 2019. Our last update on the project in July of 2021 shared that the below-grade forming had been finished, and that work was starting on the third floor slab.

Eight months since then, the building has risen well above the third slab, now standing a total of 14 storeys tall with formwork currently underway for the slab of the 15th level. The building is approaching the completion of its hotel levels – of which the forming of the 15th level will mark the end. Crews will then begin to work on two amenity levels above, followed by the residential portion of the building.

Taking a look from another vantage point, we can see that cladding has begun to be installed on the lower levels of the building. So far, two storeys facing Shuter Street are partially clad in glass that features a randomized circle pattern. After being applied to these lower levels only, it will reappear on the amenity levels between the hotel and residential portions of the building.

A closer look at the cladding shows that it has a reflective coating on it. From farther away the circles are less noticeable, but up close one can clearly make out the copper-tinted pattern.

Upon completion, the Hyatt Place hotel will open with 240 suites, while there will be 179 residential rental units in the upper section. The hotel and residential sections will share access to most of the amenities, including an outdoor terrace. The upper residential storeys are to be supported by a line of V-shaped columns that will transfer the load from the apartment floors above down through the hotel below.
