Construction is progressing at Madison Group and Westdale Properties' Nobu Residences Toronto, which is bringing a pair of 45-storey, Teeple Architects-designed towers to the heart of Toronto's Entertainment District. Our last update on the development in May shared that the podium was steadily rising above Mercer Street, with four storeys formed and the fifth underway. Since then, the structural bracing that was holding the preserved heritage facades in place—no longer needed now that the new structure is complete behind the walls—has been completely dismantled, with the podium levels now rising to the seventh floor.

The heritage facades were that of two former industrial buildings at 15 and 19 Mercer built circa 1909, and the former Pilkington Glass Factory at 31 Mercer built in 1938. A partial restoration of all three is being overseen by heritage specialists ERA Architects.

While the more complex Mercer Street side continues to be dominated by shoring poles and wooden formwork, on the simpler south side of the building which faces an alley, grey window wall has recently begun to be installed, and now covers nearly half of the building's rear base levels.

The complex will bring a combined 660 condominium units to the area, plus 36 ultra-luxury hotel units to the top of the west tower. Residential suites start on the third floor, with the 9th and 10th floors to house indoor and outdoor amenities including a state-of-the-art fitness centre and ‘Zen Garden’ outdoor terrace. Along with the residential and hotel lobbies, the ground and second floors will feature retail/commercial space, with "la piece de resistance" to be the Nobu Restaurant, an approximately 15,000 square foot, two-level restaurant that will include a signature bar lounge, outdoor seating and private dining rooms.
