It's been a little over six years since Tridel and Hines broke ground on the first building of their Bayside community in Toronto's East Bayfront area, and the 13-acre site is now primed to welcome a new wave of residents with the imminent completion of the latest building, Aquabella. The third residential building in the community features a terraced geometric design by Danish architects 3XN working with Toronto-based Kirkor Architects Planners.
Topped out 14 storeys high and almost fully clad, the project's path to its current state took approximately three and a half years. Construction started in February, 2018, with shoring and excavation followed by a crane installation that August. Forming of the building's four underground levels reached the surface by Spring, 2019 and the building reached a final height of 50.9 metres just over one year ago in July, 2020.
Cladding installation has been ongoing since last year, enclosing the structure in a window wall system with vision glass and mechanical louvers framed by glass fibre-reinforced concrete (GFRC) panels, glass balcony guards, and curtainwall cladding consisting of glazing and GFRC at ground level, all of it now completing the sleek look advertised in pre-construction renderings.
With the first wave of residents now taking occupancy of their suites, a look inside the building's common spaces—appointed by interior designers II BY IV DESIGN—shows off the high quality finishes to striking effect, One standout space is the east lobby, boasting luxurious, dramatically veined marbles and accented with wood and brass.
Features of the main east lobby include a lounge area, a sculptural screen, and a colourful art installation that spans two levels where a staircase leads down to a number of amenity spaces.
