Dundas Street West's path through west end Toronto neighbourhoods is attracting plenty of development, making for interesting transitions from lower density to higher density uses. This week's Throwback Thursday covers one such change in the Runnymede area, where a car wash facility has recently been replaced by a new residential development. Travelling back to August, 2018, a view facing south across Dundas showed the car wash fenced off, with evidence of demolition prep work visible beyond the fence. A development notice board posted to the demolition fencing offered a preview of what was to come.

It would be almost another year before the new residential rental project at 3385 Dundas West was approved and demolition cleared the site for redevelopment. Now over a year and a half into construction and approaching three years since the above photo was taken, the new seven-storey  development for Terra Firma HomesHabitat for Humanity, and YYZed Project Management is structurally complete. The building is now wearing more of its final design by AJ Tregebov Architect as cladding installation encloses the lower levels. The 131-unit rental is to include 8 “Habitat Units” secured through Habitat for Humanity’s joint affordable housing ownership initiative with the City of Toronto to support low-income families.
