It was just shy of three years ago that actor Robert De Niro and film producer Meir Teper helped celebrate the ground breaking for Madison Group and Westdale PropertiesNobu Residences Toronto development, and construction is now moving along on the Mercer Street site of the condo and hotel complex in the Entertainment District. The project is bringing paired 45-storey, Teeple Architects-designed towers to the tightly-clustered Entertainment District skyline, which will soon rise above their conjoined podium structure.

It's been over six months since we last checked in on construction, and a brief recap will help keep readers up to speed. The 2018 star-sudded ground breaking paved the way for demolition and facade retention work, and the subsequent start of shoring in the early months of 2019. A 23-metre-deep excavation followed, bottoming out by the start of 2020, and creating a level surface for the installation of two tower cranes; one in January and a second in July. A six-level underground garage was then formed, and when we last checked in back in late November, the final areas of the garage were taking shape as initial above-grade forming was visible.

The podium is now steadily rising above Mercer Street, with four storeys formed and a fifth underway. New levels now rise behind the preserved heritage facades, an indication that the steel bracing that has supported the facades during demolition, shoring, excavation, and early forming may not be needed for much longer and could soon be removed.

The podium will rise to a height of six storeys before the towers break off into their individual volumes. The reduced tower floor plate sizes and repeating layouts will allow a much faster rise in the coming months, as the towers ascend towards shared heights of 156.66 metres.
