After a pause, work is striding forward again on one of the market condominium developments that are reshaping Toronto's Regent Park community. The Daniels Corporation's Artworks Tower and Artsy Boutique Condos project on the northwest corner of River and Dundas streets suffered a crane collapse this past summer, and after a few months of little progress on forming the 11 and 33-storey complex, work is now picking back up on the BDP Quadrangle and Kirkor Architects-designed buildings.

The August incident—nobody was injured—involved a jib arm collapse on the site's eastern crane, which was being used on the complex's taller 33-storey tower, while the west crane working on the base of the 11-storey volume was unaffected. Cleanup and an investigation were conducted while work was paused, and the cause was eventually determined to be a mechanical failure. With the site given the all-clear, construction resumed a few months later, and a pair of cranes once again rise over the complex's growing podium.

New forming activity was spotted this past Fall, with a replacement for the east crane working in tandem with the unaffected west crane. In the months since, a third podium level has taken shape across the site. Most recently, forming has advanced to the fourth floor at the site's east end, which marks the first of the tower floor-plates for the complex's taller tower.

Once complete this project will bring 440 more housing units to the quickly-regenerating Regent Park neighbourhood, anchored by new ground-floor retail space fronting onto Dundas Street East.
