Project principals gathered at the already-active site of 57 Brock yesterday afternoon to celebrate the ceremonial start of construction for Block Developments' new boutique condominium development in Toronto's Parkdale area. Yesterday's event took place took place at the site of a former Beer Store location, where the preliminary stages of construction are already unfolding for the seven-storey RAW-designed building.

The quick ceremony featured brief remarks from team members, including Block Developments’ CEO Ryan Fenton, who thanked the various companies and individuals helping to make the project a reality.

After sharing a few words with the crowd, Fenton was joined by Block's COO Aaron Marder and Director of Development Joseph Reichmann, along with the rest of the project team, for a photo-op with ceremonial shovels bearing the project's colourful red branding.

Meanwhile, a single drilling rig was already working away on the site's shoring system. Holes have been bored around a large portion of the site, and then filled in with the steel I-beams that will form the vertical bracing for pile and lagging retaining walls to support excavation of the building's underground levels. The shoring work will wrap up in the coming weeks, paving the way for the start of excavation.

Once complete, 57 Brock will bring 94 condominium suites to the neighbourhood, ranging in area between 548 ft² and 2,144 ft².
