Bayview Avenue is one of the major north-south arterial roads within Toronto, but it's often overlooked due to a lack of public transit accessibility and stretches of six-lane traffic, which can be prety unappealing to those looking for new homes. With the construction of a TTC subway station at Bayview and Sheppard a few years ago, Bayview is most definitely a street to watch, and Symmetry Developments have been working on a project that we're looking at today — Linea on Bayview is nearing completion and forum member cruzin4u has snapped some great photos showing the final touches being put into place.

Located at Bavyew and Hillcrest just north of Sheppard, Linea consists of 11 townhomes fronting onto Bayview, designed by Teeple Architects. Distinctly modern in style, the project design features large windows, stretching three storeys facing onto Bayview, providing glimpses into the residences. The shared driveway and individual parking garages are tucked behind allowing for landscaping in the front that we will most likely see arrive with the warmer weather.

The wood detailing is what really stands out in the pictures below. Protruding volumes in the form of windows are contrasted with the recessed entranceways, both accented with high-quality natural cedar. Symmetry indicated on our project Forum here that the cedar will not be finished in order to emphasize the natural beauty of the wood — we couldn't agree more. The natural warmth of cedar enlivens and complements the grey zinc and stone siding wonderfully.

Extensive landscaping will surely pull the project together, creating a dramatic grouping of urban-style townhomes along the northern stretch of Bayview Avenue. Let's hope the success of this development spurs similar growth, encouraging greater density and accessibility to this part of the city.
