I'd have to imagine the guarantee of a strike disrupting at least one of your 4 years is reason enough to veto York.
I don't consider my concerns about academic disruptions due to labour unrest to be notions.I can't imagine my parent ever vetoing a university on my behalf because of their preconceived notions or hangups around aesthetics.
