York Region Transit: Viva service thread

Service changes for August 31st are now live.

I will let one of you do the deep dive.
2 biggest changes:

Route 4 now splitting to Route 6 west of the Major Mack bus terminal
91 and 91A combining into 1 route

everything else just mainly schedule adjustments; some on call route changes but doesnt affect many people.

(we seem to have two YRT/VIVA threads. Should we consolidate here or there?)

Service changes for August 31st are now live.

The obligatory reminder that a large percentage of a small number is still a small number. 6% means something very different on the TTC than on YRT.

Some genuine improvements and lots of runtime changes.

**I did my best to interpret the blended 91/91A Bayview schedules. I might not have gotten everything. Also note that the blending was not perfect, so I tried to average out headways (actual headways are irregular, because YRT)

Minor schedule adjustments:
  • 2 Milliken: one AM trip adjusted for school bell times; one other AM trip adjusted for reasons unclear.

  • 90 Leslie: two additional trips added for schools; one trip servicing Beaver Creek terminated.
  • 320 Jane Express: "schedule adjustments"
  • 360 Wonderland Express: seasonal route changes and cancellations (can't be bothered to look through them)
  • 361 Nashville Express: four trip departures adjusted
  • School route changes, which I am not wading into

I cannot for the life of me understand what exactly YRT even does.

The last #2 Milliken bus Mon-Fri is 11:17pm....despite the fact most events and evening shifts end at 11:00pm....nobody is reaching Finch in 17 minutes, not with the theatrics that occur on Line 1 at that time of night. But in typical suburbia fashion, on SATURDAY they have a 11:28pm bus and 12:01am bus.

YRT is so archaic and embarrassing I don't even know what to say anymore. How does YRT not have a 12:01 bus Mon-Fri for Route 2????

This past Saturday I was actually surprised that there was still a bus available so I dashed to Finch as fast as I could and got on with about a minute to spare. The bus was almost half full......HALF FULL on Saturday at midnight!

Yeah the YRT is sometimes a lying 🤡. I don’t see any service improvements mentioned on that page and no mentions of frequency increases on routes 8 Kennedy, 91 Bayview, 102D Markham, 129A McCowan, and 165 Weston despite being planned for increases in January 2026 as outlined in the 2026 service plan: https://online.flippingbook.com/view/857105380/15/

Recently I’ve rode the 129A particularly on weekdays midday and pm rush hours and it’s always crowded ever since the one fare program was introduced two years ago.

YRT Route 2's service levels ought to be similar to TTC's Route 42 Cummer. One just north of Steeles, the other just south yet two completely different worlds.

@stevensontransit So, that was just the public consultation on the proposed changes in the 2026 Annual Transit Plan. They refine the proposed changes, and need to get approval from regional council. Instead of the proposed 5% increase in service hours, they allocated for a 4% increase in service hours in the draft budget. Though there is some flexibility to add service hours beyond the budgeted amount if ridership grows more than expected.

The final 2026 Annual Transit Plan document will be available in early 2026.
