I think a few more who should be added for consideration are Jean Leloup, Wintersleep (perhaps the best Canadian group to get mainstream recognition in the past few years), and Caribou.
My own personal favourite is Do Make Say Think. To be able to create instrumental pop songs that are so beautiful and can take your mind away from a chilly -25 degree walk through the city is to me the essence of great Canadian music. That and writing anthems for empty bathtubs and seventeen year old girls.
