what do the toronto people do?

1. Do you need a car

Yes, two (one for work commute, another for family) plus a motorcycle (okay, I don't need the latter)

2. How do you bring home big packages/load of groceries without a car

Every week, we walk to No Frills in Cabbagetown with our pull wagon and load up.

3. Is it overrated

It's not for everyone, but we love being able to walk to the shops. This was one the reasons (of many) that we fled Fredericton NB for Toronto.

4. How often do you guys use the TTC System

Rarely, doesn't make financial or time sense. If we want to go to the Zoo, it would be almost two hours on TTC, and the TTC would cost more than the parking at the Zoo (we have Zoo member rates). Same goes for places downtown, especially on Sundays, parking right next to the ROM, or Eaton Centre, or AGO etc. is almost always cheaper than the cost of TTC for the family, even with the day pass. Now, if the car wasn't paid for or considered necessary, then sure the TTC is the better way economically.

That said, we did take the TTC to Word on the Street yesterday, and it was great fun for the kids. We've also taken the subway with the kids to go to the Eaton Centre and CN Tower.
