Waterfront: Humber Islands in the Works?

Count me as in favour, although not of "look but don't touch". Maybe a golf course, especially if it was essentially a "swap" for one onshore?

Interesting idea - there definitely seem to be far too many golf courses within the city that take up huge amounts of valuable land. It seems bizarre to me.

I think this just goes to show how little foresight and decisiveness the City Councillors have. This was an opportunity to have a new Humber park or maybe a filled in Allen, or some other major project. This opportunity to have a lot of fill and the Allen closed, is now gone and these major auxilary projects will not be available again.

Why lay it at the feet of the councillors? Did the mayor bring the issue to his exec committee? That's his job - lead the city.

B/c BurlOak is a supporter of the Mayor and not the Council, obviously. But given that the construction is being done by, you know, tunneling experts, shouldn't THEY know there's some dirt to be shifted?

I view the mayor as part of council. Remember, Colonel Von Trapp is part of the Von Trapp family singers.
btw, They have all done a pretty bad job when it comes to transit.

???

I do not understand this. Is it up to the contractors to find a use for the dirt that is a benefit to the City. There mandate is to find the cheapest way to dispose the soil within the law. If there is a use that will lead to some public good – it is up to the politicians to find it.

IIRC, this is a new stance for you. Welcome to the muddled middle! I'm still going to argue the Mayor was and is the problem on transit, though.

According to the story, the tunnelling experts are selling the dirt to aggregate companies. The aggregate companies are re-using it. Why does the re-use of dirt need or desire council's meddling? If the dude IN THE DIRT BUSINESS thinks that a clearinghouse for dirt exchange is a great idea, why doesn't he invest $10,000 grand in a website and call all his friends?
