Proposed is a new 5-storey academic building connected to the existing 1-storey athletics centre located on the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) south campus. The interior and exterior of the athletics centre would be renovated and repurposed for exams, conferences and other events. The new 5-storey building would add lecture theatres and classrooms on the below-grade level, a student commons space, administrative offices and staff offices on the ground floor, faculty offices and undergraduate and graduate teaching labs on levels 2-5. The total gross floor area of the new building, including the renovated athletics centre is 12,400 square metres. No additional parking is proposed as part of the application. UTSC submitted a Zoning By-law Amendment Application in 2014 (14 131315 ESC 44 OZ) for a reduced parking rate to apply campus-wide. If approved, the campus will not require additional parking, or a variance from the Zoning By-law to facilitate this property

Ahhhhh! I wanted to see these renderings. Hopefully the link is fixed soon.
Don't use the second direct link - use the first one, click on supporting documentation and then "download".

It's the only rendering - the rest is plans/sections/elevations.

Hmm. Both links gave the same result when I tried earlier today.

Interesting design!

Anyone know how the building will remake the R Wing? Is it a complete rebuild of the inside and out, or just integrating the general building with walls (and floors) removed?

Architectural Design Concept
The concept for Highland takes inspiration from UTSC’s native topography and the dramatic qualities of John Andrew’s original campus architecture to create a bold new presence along Military Trail and to define a spatial gateway to The South Campus. The design will transform R-Wing, the site of the former campus gymnasium, into a new locus of learning, research and social activity. A series of public space connections will weave through the design, integrating new and renovated spaces into a seamless whole while offering new accessible routes through the campus. The most significant of these spaces, “the Ravine” will connect the various levels of academic and student activity, supporting the formation of new communities amongst the buildings diverse occupants.
