Urban Wilderness!

Well, seeing as we were just talking about it, here are a couple of snaps of the old rail ROW and Meadow Way, including the eroding bank. Not much seems to have been done with it but as mentioned, one day it will put the transmission tower footings at risk. Still a ways to go though.

Lots of quaking aspens along the path which look especially beautiful with their fall colour. Sumac is turning red as well, they put on one of my favourite fall displays. The meadow portion under the lines really is quite something compared to the mowed grass monoculture it used to be. I'm about a week or two late, the goldenrod was especially vibrant but we're just past its peak. New England asters are adding a nice touch of colour though.

The Golden Mile is pretty dreary overall so I take what little bit of nature I can get. As I've got older I've really come to appreciate going for short walks on my breaks.

So the eroded bank is still eroding away, but they've finished paving and reconnecting the section of Meadow Way path between Warden and Birchmount. It's a nice bit of respite in the very industrial area I work in. Lots of red-winged blackbirds perched on the cattails; luckily none decided to divebomb me as they are prone to doing around this time.
