TTC Subway Station Construction/Modernization

Thankfully, it is probably going to be covered with a matching metal sliver. You can see where they’ve done that at Queen’s Park.

I would have loved to see the station done in faux (but quality) pink sandstone tile, with faux copper ceiling panels to match its name sake.

For St. Patrick a yellow brick subway tile matching the church, and uplighting of the columns.

Yeah, yeah, I know..... money, LOL Still nice thought, to me.

A step forward.

When did that program start ... 2008? They might be finished by 2050 ... by which point they'll probably have to start again as they add platform doors. :)
The first renovation from 2009 has long concluded. They’re only putting in new lighting now because the early generation LED lighting they initially put in was failing.

There's still many stations with the old curved lighting that's so much dimmer than the triangular lights they put in, in 2009. The triangular were brighter and whiter, and I assume the older ones are still not LED.

Are the wall panels back up or does it still look like a movie set from Aliens?
Are you thinking of St. Patrick and Queen’s Park, and maybe even Osgoode? No, none of those stations have completed walls.

Of note at St. Patrick and Queen’s Park: they changed the design a bit. Now there’s a bit of an overhang on the platform side above the contrasting colour band. I should have taken a photo yesterday.

Was a lot of the time not spent doing asbestos abatement here? Doesn't excuse the amount of time that it has taken to get the paneling back up though.

Need I remind about that abhorrent proposal from the Toronto Community Foundation back in the late 2000's that would have seen the station turned into this... At least we didn't end up with that as much as the status quo is quite meh.

Those animated horses would've been great.

The entire station design seems like an homage to the history of filmmaking.

Looks like some recent work done on the southern part of the Northbound platform at St Patrick Station

All that effort and money to make it look like a lesser version, of 'not very good' (in my opinion).........eesh.

If you like the original, I'd get endorsing the attempt, but its bad.......the execution is just........meh.

I didn't care for the original and would have loved to see far more ambition here.

It seems okay standing on the platform. But the speed it's going is stunningly slow. They seemed to be progressing somewhat when I there regularly in July. But the only time I've gone through since, there was some progress - but no where near what I expected.

For those that aren't there regularly, @AlbertC, what is the progress you are seeing? It's hard to see where the photos are, on which platform.

The pics are from the southern portion of the northbound platform at St Patrick. So where the rear section of the train would be when it has fully entered the station.

The pace of work has definitely been slow but the section shown in the pics does feel like it was done within the past 2 to 3 weeks or so. They've gradually filled in more of the curved green wall paneling compared to last month. It's mainly noticeable as they've opened up a bit more of the platform's standing space. The very south-most end of the platform (not shown in pics) is still halved in standing space as it still hasn't completed the panel installation yet.

Why does it take ten years to renovate one station?

You only have 5 hours a day to remove the existing material, fix any problems once the station is exposed, to measure things to make sure those measurements match what is plan for the station, upgrade the electrical system to new codes and then start installing the new material. Now what size of crew is doing the work and are they working 7 days a week?

What station has taken 10 years to do it??

You can get more done faster if you close the station for a week or two at time.
