TTC: Redesigning TTC Signage

That new TTC pictograph is an abomination.

I would rather have the international tram pictograph or the Wikipedia CLRV pictograph. I really hope that the new TTC pictograph does not end up on Wikipedia's subway line maps (and there are many pictograph designers on Wikipedia who do extremely good jobs at designing custom pictographs, such as with the Wikipedia CLRV pictograph (though it is not the best)).

See here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Route_diagram_template and here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikip...laneous_transportation_and_line-side_features

I have contacted the person who makes Toronto-based transit icons on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:AlgaeGraphix

We should let Brad Ross know that if they could designate a new pictograph this week, they can designate another new one next week. Nothing is permanent, and the less satisfying something is the shorter the life span should be. That miserable attempt should be ridiculed out of existence before they waste dollars replicating it.

I would recommend Brad Ross to hire AlgaeGraphix to design the pictograms, especially given that he based many pictograms he designed on TTC vehicles and those pictograms are used in many line maps of many cities around the world. As a bonus, Brad Ross would gain a Wikipedian to work for the TTC, although Wikipedia has very strict no conflict-of-interest rules.

That pictograph seems too detailed to me. I don't think it will be very legible from far distances. The simpler it is the better

What he said. It looks nice, but pictographs are supposed to be basic and simple.

On the other hand, if new pictographs for other vehicles of similar details start making the rounds, then it might actually work.

Looks like the TTC has officially redone their map, as the old one has been taken down:

As expected, most of our concerns and recommendations were pushed aside. Express bus routes are now even harder to see, and good luck attempting to distinguish different routes where they all run together. Shame too, cause I remember in a PDF regarding maps and signage they opted for either highlighting different routes or highlighting frequent routes. Why they decided not to opt for both is perplexing (see last few pages of this PDF). Even older maps from the 50s-60s coloured some routes black to make it easier to read.

The new map has not caught the additional changes to the (supposedly temporary split) of the 72/172. They now meet at Carlaw and Commissioners not Cherry and Commissioners. When the Front Street work finishes at Union Station the 72 is supposed to be back to normal, with the hope that it will continue to go to St Andrew and King as that makes it a FAR more useful route and a viable alternative to the 504.

New line specific maps?

I really like the new look of the new signs & maps.

Has the TTC used a different material for the new maps on Line 2? Both ways on my commute today, I noticed that the maps were wrinkly and falling out of the brackets, as if they were unable to support their own weight. Perhaps the crewed installed them sloppily?

Seems decent enough, although I prefer the straight line diagrams at platform level, which is where I assume these go. Still an abundance of strokes around everything though, the TTC loves strokes for some reason.

I believe that these will go inside of the trains. Recall that the trains on Line 3 do not have the full system map; they only have the map with Line 3 stations. These maps go alongside the doors, and it looks like the map in the photo is designed to fit there.

I'd assume so. Hard to find a good photo on the internet, but on the one below, you can see the existing map, on the very right edge of the photo:
