TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Not sure if anyone has posted this before but one escalator at Hwy 407 station has been permanently removed, which looks pretty dumb. When did this happen?? LolView attachment 655812View attachment 655813
There's never been one there in the first place. That's a rough-in for a future install.

That level of the station is where the fare line is, along with the access to the parking lot. It will never get busy enough in this configuration to warrant an escalator. But at the bottom there, to the left, there's also a knock-out panel to allow access to the 407 Transitway platforms when that finally gets built - only then will they "need" to install the escalator there.

When has there been an 7:30 am meeting before this one??

With community council meetings all day Wednesday and Thursday, and Eid on Friday, it might be what makes to have the CEO in place before the TTC subcommittee meetings on Monday. With video conferencing, a 15-minute meeting at that time isn't such a big deal. Hopefully all the councillors have their cameras off while brushing their teeth! :)

Grok is insistent that no meeting has started before 10 AM before. Though I'd take that with a large sack of salt.

It probably means it is expected to be very short - mandatory - meeting, squeezed in before others. As I suspected...

Mandeep Lali has been confirmed as the new CEO of the TTC.

This was approved at the meeting noted above this morning and publicly confirmed by the Mayor a few minutes ago.

Interesting bio. I hope this is a win for TTC elevator reliability.

Lali joins the TTC after three years as a senior executive in charge of subway operations with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority in New York, according to his LinkedIn profile. Lali began his career at Transport for London, the transit agency that operates the London Underground subway system, where he worked for 13 years, Myers said when introducing Lali at the press conference. From Transport for London, Lali left to work at Otis Elevator, a global elevator company, as an executive board director for seven years.

I know nothing of Lali, only what people tell me. I hope he will be more than just a pretty face, and actually have the urgency to fix the present day shortcomings of the TTC.

Wow, the first time in history a city department didn't hire the absolute worst person for the job! I have my fingers crossed for positive change!
