TTC: Major Operational Issues (Various)

Emailed again and got a response from Councilor Dianne Saxe's office saying:

The TTC is at a flux point with the resignation of Rick Leary and the hunt for its next leader, so I look forward to continued correspondence and advocacy as the City discerns how to restore and strengthen the public transit system.

I will be sure to follow up with you tomorrow

The southbound speed restriction was lifted a couple months ago. The northbound restriction has been in place for months and is probably the worst restriction in place on the line, trains don't even get up to 10km/h. It's more closer to 5km/h.
I do northbound / southbound weekly through this area. Bloor to Rosedale is not maddening, I'm sure there are far worse sections out there.

Bloor-Rosedale northbound is definitely one of the slower ones, but at least it's a short distance outside (unlike the tunnels around St. Clair West) and with how Aylmer/Rosedale Valley backs up you're not getting whizzed past like the slow zones on the Allen. That said, Bloor-Rosedale is certainly one of the worst problem spots in the system and (it at least feels like) it's been reduced speed more often than not in at least one direction over the last decade plus.

I acknowledge your frustration, and join in your desire for service to be returned to normal speed as quickly as possible.

I understand from the TTC that the repairs are being conducted as quickly as they can be done. A great deal of essential maintenance was deferred during Covid, so the process of catching up is rather painful. But a derailment would be much worse.

Great job on reaching out to the councillor, glad she actually took the time out to get back to you with some thoughtful insight (unlike some of the useless ones I can think of who wouldnt have).

The fact that the TTC has had 2 major derailment incidents in the past 4 years doesnt really help their case, but notwithstanding it shouldn't take the TTC a better part of 3+ years to "catch up" on maintenance. I'm not blaming the councillor for giving that reasoning, but if that's the garbage excuse the city is tolerating from the TTC that's pretty telling.

It was a messy process but at least they finally got rid of the chief clown (Rick Leary) who led the TTC down to this screwed up situation, and hopefully we get some meaningful change in the next few weeks. The slow order situation is absolutely unacceptable, and any competent leader would see it as such.
 
I'm not sure if this is a Major issue but the TTC didn't put up notices at some stops that routes will not serve them. I let them know, and when the suspension was extended they still didn't update the signs.

The diversion has been extended to October but the sign has not been updated.

TTC failing to put up, take down, or even provide the correct signage is systemic. There's still signage up for routes that haven't existed for years.
 
This is kind of related: the stop at Charlotte Loop has a bunch of inactive routes, but it doesn’t have signage for the 503. The TTC website and transit apps list it as a stop for the 503, but streetcars actually go out of service at Spadina and don’t pick up again until Peter.
 
Made a rare appearance at Kipling station on Saturday. Asked one of those bored looking workers with the bright red "i" bib which bus route travels south towards the Queensway, and he looked at me like I had two heads. He then asked another 2 red-bibbed colleagues about my inquiry, and all of them were confused. Ultimately, I was told "please check an app, sir". Unbelievable. It should be noted all of these "information" workers seemed to be TFW's from the subcontinent, so even a public institution like the TTC is now exploiting these poor people and not even properly training them to boot. :mad:

Noticed the same with those in the bibs for the film festival downtown this week .Most have the knowledge of someone who moved to Toronto last week, in other words essentially zero, and they are often hiding somewhere where they can spend most of the day on facetime calls to someone back home.
