TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

Perhaps they are testing Flexitys in the war on the pedestrian and other objects.

Then, they could something like this to the front to scare away the careless.

Well, one of them unfortunately delivered itself into a person's body, and we're discussing other places in which such deliveries are likely to occur and potential ways to stop those deliveries.
The body may have delivered itself under the car. How does this happen in a protected ROW if not human error?

Other than human error? Suicide mostly - but this looks like an accident - neither could have seen the other coming, when the victim stepped out from behind a streetcar parked on the other track, into the way of the one that was moving.

You know full well that that is complete BS.

"Flexity Testing & Delivery" refers to arrivals of new Flexities.

Since the ROW is only dangerous for pedestrians when they're crossing in front of a streetcar, why not have barriers when the streetcar cometh.
or maybe have fences along the length of them except at intersections. Although doing that would mean that emergency services would complain about not being able to use it in an emergency.

And the old streetcars will probably be on the streets until 2021.
Or longer, given the current plan is to have 204 new ones, and 30 ALRVs in service - with the ALRVs being used at peak only.
They have to have them off the streets by 2025 thats he date the province has fixed for the entire system to be 100% accessible and as berrie free as possible.

No they don't. TTC has already indicated that the route would still be considered accessible because most of the cars would be accessible. With streetcars coming every 2 minutes 504 in rush hour, you'd only have to wait 4 minutes for an accessible vehicle. On Kingston Road you have to wait 6 minutes - is this not accessible then? What about those routes that only run every 30 minutes - are the accessible?

O. Reg. 191/11 section 40:
40. (1) Conventional transportation service providers are not required to retrofit vehicles that are within their fleet as of July 1, 2011 in order to ensure that the vehicles meet the accessibility requirements of sections 53 to 62.
Is this the TTC's get out of jail card if they have to continue flogging the retrofitted ALRVs after 1/1/2025?

yes they are considering it accessible if they have enough new cars on it but there is a deadline for when thy can't run the CLRVS and ALRVS anymore plus they are getting to the end of their life and rebuilding them again isn't an option.

The ALRVs will be gone. In the board meeting Andy Byford mention a few things

1. May and June's deliveries are on schedule. He's confident they will deliver.
2. They don't have enough CLRVs to throw on the 512, so they're converting it since the stations are now accessible.
3. Some of the ALRVs are in such rough shape, they can't even retrofit them.

So TTC will have to get new cars no matter what.

If the province is happy to make all these regulations about accessibility, then the province should be happy to fund improvements to transit to make it accessable. The province should also inform the citizenry of said province of the cost of said promise because this is another example if a chicken in every pot.

It's an awfully long deadhead run from Leslie Barns to St Clair. Since they are taking out the trash - scrapping ALRVs and CLRVs - does this mean some Flexities are going to reside at Roncy?
Yes, that is always the plan. Roncy had the Flexity's before Leslie opened. They can also do limited maintenance with one low floor track (glass building) unlike Russell.

I don't see what in that says that they'll get new cars no matter what.

Someone would have to cough up the $300 million to buy them.

Bombardier delays aside, maybe we shouldn't have waited until 2009 to order new streetcars? CLRV were built in 1977-1981, ALRV from 1987-1989. It's an amazing tribute to the TTC's mechanics that the CLRVs are still running. Can you imagine Air Canada running its fleet with units from the 1980s?
