TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

The TTC should invoice Bombardier for any and all overhauls, rebuilds, etc. on their CLRV's and ALRV's needed to make up the shortfall. Bombardier should pay the TTC for each old streetcar that the TTC has to keep.

The current CLRV and ALRV fleet were made in the very same factory in Thunder Bay as the Outlook streetcars. So pay up to extend their life.

This is mentioned in the TTC statement: "The TTC will also seek damages for maintenance and overhaul costs of the existing streetcar fleet; service and customer impact costs, such as supplementing streetcar routes with buses; and TTC staff time that has been expended on this matter, and will continue to be expended."

Bbr seems to have been pretty complacent with their management of this order and were completely taken off guard
with their various issues. Honestly though, I dont know whats better, start cutting from the tail end of the order and retendering those or just rip the scab off in 1 shot and axe the entire order
 

big deal they went with more then one manufacturer but they didn't have to have them re design the vehicle for them. All the cities you listed were built to the same standard as most other cities in the world. All the other companies that bid didn't have manufacturing facilities in Canada at the time and would have had to build one, who knows what delays that could have caused loom at what happened with Leslie barns.
 
So the question becomes: can we keep enough ALRVs and CLRVs limping along for the 8 to 10 years required to tender and receive shipment of 60 new cars from another manufacturer? Because honestly, that seems like the only option at this point.

There are already buses on the 504 King route...
 
It's a good thing TTC doesn't have another massive LRT order from Bombardier for a bunch of new LRT lines.... oh wait...

Yep, TTC, not to mention Kitchener et al, are looking pretty sorely screwed. Good thing is that those are far enough from opening, and they don't have the downtown streetcar customizations (gauge, turn radius, trolley pole), so hopefully it might be possible to cancel those sooner than later and place orders with other manufacturers. While that's ridiculous with the streetcars, I think it might make sense for the LRVs. Hopefully the powers that be will review that possibility in the various cities that currently have Flexity LRV orders.
 
I'm perplexed in their reasoning that they still have electrical issues during production. How were they able to make the first 10 to standard and all
of a sudden regress because of something that was solved? Was ramping up the schedule causing the workers to make silly mistakes? If so they really ought to be disciplined and/or fired
since they are essentially destroying the company. In the macro sense, Bbr should reevaluate their production strategies and management because I'm sure that they still have the rest of the world's orders to fulfill as well
 
Seriously, is this a company that just started learning to make streetcars? Bombardier has been operating since the 1940s. They have a serious management issue and managers should be fired across the board. If they can't anticipate these issues before they become huge problems as they have, then they're incompetent. What a mess.
 
This is the first time we've been told that the Sahagun plant manufactures electronics. Up til now, their role was reported to be fabricating body shells. And problems with body shells and painting were blamed. Now it's wiring harnesses?

well in that case clearly, Bbr cocked up big time, risking a reshuffle of who builds what in an effort to save time
who was doing the electrical to begin with? TB?

What? If they had actually pressured for the work to be done in Thunder Bay, instead of Mexico, they would not have this problem.
