TTC: Cherry Street reconstruction and streetcar trackage (City of Toronto/TTC, U/C)

And why pick 514 if 507 and 513 are still free.

My guess would be to keep the '4', so it has some sort of similarity. 504...514

Although, I don't see why they wouldn't just give it a branch letter instead. 504A/B/C/etc.

So they can advertise a shiny new route vs a permanent short turn!

(I'm actually in favour of managed permanent short turns...it's just been horribly done by the TTC in the past...if they only looked at the NextBus data to tell an operator if he/she should be short turning or not based on the spacing of vehicles in front of them...but that would be what other operators did in the 1980's so its way too advanced for the TTC)

This was posted in the Flexity thread, but I'll post it here again because I'd love to see a streetcar parade like this for the opening of the Cherry Branch in June. And look! The Peter Witt is leading this time!

Cherry St ROW & Overhead is 100% complete and waiting removal of the fences so testing can take place by May for June service. The loop is also complete with pavers up to the bridge as well the whole area.

While not have photos on line until sometime this week since there 500 shots in front of them that need tagging, renumber and fixing.

As for open day, I have been asking for this for years and up to TTC, not Waterfront Toronto. It was supposed to happen for the official opening last year of QQ last year, but never happen.

I just posted my video in Flexity thread for the parade that saw may first for TTC this year.

According to Waterfront Toronto, move ins start in 2 weeks, so we should see the fence down sometime next week at the latest.

The area is beautiful, nice architecture on the houses. Let's hope the street car goes often enough.
Only needs to be every 5-10 minutes at this time.

Likely the Cherry Street tracks could be used for short turns for the 504 King streetcar, instead of using Broadview, Dundas, and Parliament.
Possibly, but there'll be no where for the car to sit for long, without blocking the 514, unlike on Parliament, where they can wait for the right point to re-enter service, so they'll have to be careful when they do this, or they will re-enter early.

I'm sure it will get some use for short turns - but I don't think it will preclude all use of Broadview/Dundas/Parliament (and vice-versa)

Though there's certainly a lot less unscheduled short-turning going on now that they've adjusted the schedule to try and minimize this.
