Toronto's Other Skylines

I hope I don't create a redundant thread but I thought this would be a cool idea.

With all the development that Toronto has experienced over the past decade and a half, we've seen the emergence of many new skylines in the Toronto area that could put many mid-size American cities to shame. Now even Toronto's suburbs like Mississauga, Vaughan and Markham are building denser and taller and will soon have impressive skylines of their own.

This thread is here to discuss and celebrate Toronto's other emerging skylines. They may not have the landmark CN Tower and Skydome to anchor their respective city centres, but they are nonetheless rapidly growing into formidable panoramic landscapes in their own right!

Thanks for posting that. I should've included Scarborough Town Centre in the OP.

There are other new skylines that we can start following in this thread in the upcoming years too.

Pretty soon we will have a skyline in the Etobicoke City Centre with the redevelopment of the Six-Points interchange and the development of condos stretching from Islington to Cloverdale Mall along Dundas West. We will also see one developing along Jarvis between Gerrard/Dundas and Queen too, Pace Condos is just the beginning.

That is true, however Scarborough's skyline is just like Mississauga's: it happens to look impressive from a distance, but it's actually not very urban at all. It pains me to say this, but for the most part Scarborough Centre is a complete write-off.

Agreed. Asisde from the CBD, all our skylines are unattractive. Uptown and midtown are improving. Other skylines in the making include: Concord Park Place/the adjacent Central Park development; the area directly south of Fairview Mall (Parkway Forest); the office park lands bounded by Sheppard, Victoria Park, the 401 and the DVP; Shops at Don Mills, and even the Valley Woods/York Mills area will have a pretty dense feel when all of the phases of The Ravine are complete (similar in scope to Thorncliffe Park).

Most of these skylines are decent. Humber Bay is attractive when seen from the western beaches. Mississauga already has some first-rate architecture. Scarborough's greatest strength as a city centre is Albert Campbell Square. It actually has storefront retail fronting onto it in at least 2 new condo buildings. We could have a European-style market square there one day. These skylines have a lot of potential, but it'll probably take several generations of city building to meet that potential.

Nice photo from Linus Park. It offers some of the most spectacular skyline/horizon views in the city. Based on your avatar, it appears you live around Parkwoods Village Drive. Might I suggest snapping some photos from Ranchdale Park and Laurentide Park. There are really incredible vantages from these spots. I agree. It pales in comparison to the high-rise concentration that is NYCC and Yonge Street, that while essentially only runs along a single street, still manages to feel dense and populated by pedestrian and vehicular traffic. The high-rises are built in close enough proximity to one another with to form a true canyon, something that I SCC and MCC don't have. There is also great street level presence utilizing office, residential, retail, restaurants, shopping, and public spaces that are geared toward the pedestrian realm. It may not be as 'walkable' as a downtown, but it's got a pretty impressive street canyon that comes close to University Avenue in terms of density IMO.
