exactly,you must realize the so call $9 hour jobs is for the lowest end of the scale,there will be more jobs there that pays a lot more depending on the skill level of the employee.Add benefits,overtime,bonus,etc,etc it not a bad job if you look at overall package.I waiting for the notice of a condo development there,this area lacks a bit of polish but the image on a "disney land" for gamblers in Toronto will be amazing.
 
You're not going to get a casino there, if that's what you're hoping for, just more slots tied to the racetrack.

Even with the incentives the city will spend far less to provide services to this development than it will receive in taxes. Toronto is a basket case when it comes to 'creating' jobs so it should take them where it can get them.
 
I think that's the point ... why would we want it to work out the other way. The city spends more for services then it'll recoup from the development? Unless you mean the long term gains will be worth and the city should consider the bigger picture.

wrong...tables are planned in the near future..talking to a few buddies at WEGs and they are planning to start training the staff to work tables..this came from the "horses mouth"..lol......
 
Both Toronto City Council and the provincial government would have to approve of any expansion of the gambling facilities at the site, and no debate on that has been announced yet. Last time it was considered (and reported on) was July of 2007 when it went nowhere. Existing gambling facilities (and First Nations and towns) in this province are lobbying against any further expansion of gambling in the province, and few Toronto councillors seem to be for it.

IF you want a casino that attracts visitors from abroad you must have tables,the developer knows this and will definitely lobby the city to allow this,you cannot make money on slots only and the horse racing part is losing money.The actual time for "debate" for the tables will be made when the initial development is almost complete,they do not want to disrupt the process of construction because of objection from other casinos just yet.Of course putting tables at Woodbine will kill Rama and Fallsview business.The tables will be there %100 by the time this location is completed.
 
It's not in the bag, I tells yah. Just because the developer may want something does not mean they will automatically get it. It will be a big fight to get anything other than slots in there. Big.

What do you mean? The project does NOT involve a casino whatsoever ... just an expansion of the slots and the mall + hotel and other facilities.

What's not "in the bag"?
 
I'm trying to tell Ducati that Woodbine Live having anything other than slots is "not in the bag" or "not a done deal", and that it will be a big fight to get anything else like tables, which Ducati is claiming the developer will try for.

why would WEG start to inform employees about future training for tables if its not part of the over scene for the "casino" project.The amount of extra revenue from taxes will be huge for the government.You think a billion dollar project will not include tables, how do you think they will get a return if they do not include tables?.Tourist are not going to travel to this location for slots or movies,the tables are a slam dunk.
 
I am not saying that Cordish & WEG (Woodbine Entertainment Group) will never be allowed to put in anything other than more slots because I cannot predict what the two levels of government involved will decide between now and the end of time. What I am saying, Ducati, is that WEG and Cordish do not currently have the right to put tables in, and that if they want them, there will be extensive discussions in that regard, the outcome of which are not certain: there are a lot of people that do not want a full-fledged casino in Toronto, and they have some clout. It's not a slam-dunk: there will be a fight.

I really doubt this will happen ... the casino that is. At least a full fledged one as mentioned above. I know a few people that actually used to work with the OLG and the notion of a Casino in Toronto doesn't bod well for there remaining stock of Casino's in Ontario ... particularly Casino Ramma and a few others.

Moreover there would be quite the uproar from community groups and even some city councilors despite the cash value it would bring in.

So again, it's possible but unlikely ... and at the present time there's absolutely no indication of it taking place. Well unless you happen to know some inside information.
