What extra space? I don’t get what he is referring to. Do you mean the space where the jersey barrier and pylons are? If so, that’s not extra space. That’s Bathurst Street. It was just a lane blocked off for construction.

He was suggesting that the closed lane was not required for road use, and could be incorporated into the sidewalk.

Given that this lane leads into the parking for the condos and Loblaws, I assume the lane is going to be pretty well used and prevent backups along Bathurst into the Lake Shore intersection.

Choice Properties Real Estate Investment Trust ("Choice Properties" or the "Trust") (TSX: CHP.UN) announced today that it has entered into an agreement to acquire two real estate assets (the "Properties") from Wittington Properties Limited ("Wittington") for an aggregate purchase price of approximately $206 million, excluding transaction costs, which will be satisfied in full by the issuance of 16.5 million trust units of Choice Properties.

The Properties include: (i) the remaining 60% interest in West Block, a mixed-use site that combines retail shops anchored by a Loblaws grocery store and office space located on the northeast corner of Lake Shore Boulevard and Bathurst Street in Toronto.

As previously announced, Choice Properties entered into a joint venture partnership with Wittington to revitalize and restore the original Loblaw Groceterias building to create West Block. Upon the completion of this acquisition, Choice Properties will hold a 100% ownership interest in West Block.
 
I don't suppose there is anyway the retail part could disown the residential part? Since they both look like they where done entirely by two different development teams anyways...
 
The Gardiner above the site really needs some TLC. I hope it's structurally sound (no chance of chunks of concrete falling to the pods or pedestrians below), and even if that's the case, it needs to be painted and made to look presentable.
 
I love the idea of commerce and shopping under the Gardiner. Very urban industrial feel. It may be a bit nasty in the winter however... can’t wait until it all opens.
 
Well, we'll see how the homeless treat it...nevermind the ability for the area around these new structures to get filthy with trash and what have you. Not a huge fan of buildings under above ground freeways, but I'll try to give this a chance.
How exactly do you see "the homeless' treating the area under this part of the Gardiner: there's a building there., Yes, it will probably get filthy with salt spray coming from the Gardiner; the Condo Board will need a good window-cleaning budget!
 
I'm not saying they'll do much, just that if there are tent encampments popping up nearby, I'd be curious how the property owners take care of the situation. This is of course something I may think of being more likely in the future...not necessarily now.

Anyways, the sidewalks don't look too bad at all from the photos which is good...though the overhang definotely conflicts wuth the heritage buikding and looks much more akin to MLS.

It would be great to know when the Loblaws will be open and I saw that there is going to be a Shoppers as well. And if you walk around, it looks like it's complete because you can see some marketing stuffs inside.

They also "opened the gates" for key pickup. So can't wait to know when the store itself will be open.

I think you can rely on fact that Loblaws will be advertising a Grand Opening, sooner or later!
