I do wish they are a bit more engaging with the public - to date, I don't even have a "final" floorplan for the project, but two rather dated versions that differs from one another significantly.

I hate that I'm saying this but... have you tried tweeting them? Or Facebook?

Dan,

I have seen those before, and my issue with them is that there are no indications they are final - compared the plan to this:

http://www.toronto.ca/union_station/pdf/union_stn_presentation_nov10.pdf (p. 27)

Or this:

http://urbantoronto.ca/news/2011/06/digging-deep-bigger-better-union-station

Which version resembles the final product that is currently being built? The same issue afflicts the glass roof for the moat as well - this is what's available on the city's website: http://www.toronto.ca/union_station/pdf/pedestrianization.pdf

vs. http://www.toronto.ca/union_station/pdf/union_stn_presentation_nov10.pdf (p. 42)

I think part of the problem is that all of those designs - which seem to be more-or-less the same - have all sorts of different overlays and tags on them. For instance, the floor plan drawing on the UrbanToronto page features floor cutaways on a couple of the plans that the ones on the City's site don't, but yet is the same basic plan.

The ones on the City's site were the ones also given to us at the TRM by the City for Doors Open a couple of years ago. As of that point, those were the final designs, excepting potential minor changes in finishes.

Oh the generalities are the same but if you look closely enough but you can see differences in positioning of corridors, vertical circulation elements, size of open areas, etc. Not material to the average person, but as someone with a keen interest in the final project I am certainly curious what is to be considered the final design.

I was just walking on the south side of the rail corridor (at Yonge). They appear to be cladding the south-facing SIDE of the train shed with copper. It might look quite nice :->

A quick reminder that this thread is only for the City of Toronto's station Revitalization Project, which consists of the station building and the area beneath the tracks.

There are separate threads for:
- The GO Transit project, involving the new trainshed and trackwork.
- The TTC project, involving the TTC subway station.

Too bad they didn't create a "fake facade" as was done with the US Supreme Court renovation:

These fake facades are quite common in Europe too and are really a great idea for historic buildings. I think I saw one in Toronto a few years ago but it is certainly not common here. (Yes, thanks to others - see below - the Bay @ Richmond was wrapped in a fake front.)

Are you thinking of the Richmond St facade of the Bay?

True, though I sort of don't hate the fumigation-hood look the Front Street facade is sporting these days.

Yep, the Bay had the fake facade for a while - four or five years ago?

Those pictures just reminded me that the public art piece in front of union is probably on of my favourite in the city. It has such a form of elegance and power to it that I can't quite explain.
