new render with a much different looking casino placeholder than what we have been seeing.

Sorry to get of topic. Hey did anyone else notice that the above rendering has the second Infinity placed opposite the original? That would had made so much more sense allowing for clear views of the CBD and Lake for both towers. The actual configuration kills lake views for the original and CBD views for the second. Although the southcore buildings to the north and MLS, Ice, 1 York and 10 York will kill most of view regardless.

Good eye! I hadn't noticed that. Yes, I agree that configuration would have made more sense to me.

Well, if this casino issue is really dead, there's still a great deal that could be done with that block of space.

A singular, unique tower. One that could also sit atop a tourist attraction we're currently missing: a planetarium? A Princess of Wales sized theatre? A small outpost of an international art museum (Tate, Prado Louvre, The Museum Of Sex)? An AGO or science center branch? An extension of a college or University? A city of Toronto museum? MOCCA? A small urban cathedral? A rival opera house? More convention space, definitely.

...too bad nothing ot this will happen without Casino ( which is gone) financial support...

Good point renvel, I was just about to mention that. Didn't the Oxford developers state that the project would only go forward if the casino was approved? Such a shame, it would have been an awesome project, and a much needed addition to the MTCC, which is just too small to attract the big conventions.

They have said they will need government funding for the expansion if the casino doesn't go through. I would expect them to start lobbying for funding in a couple of months after the casino is officially dead.

Just suck it up...

I thought they said the office would go ahead, just phased and pushed out further than with a casino. No casino likely kills the hotel and the decking over the rails, along with of course the extra convention space.

I may be mistaken, feel free to correct me.

DSD:

As neat as it is, that building is part of the casino component of the project and I believe ultimately the operator gets to decide the design, not Oxford. So really it was nothing but a very fancy placeholder.

And mind you that the fate of the casino is to be decided today, and it's not looking good for those wanting a casino.

Regardless, we should be getting the most important part of the project anyways, which is the reconstruction of the convention centre.

…and it's worth noting in the thread here for history's sake that Toronto City Council voted to tell the province it was not interested in the casino around noon today.

It may not be this particular constellation of buildings. (And how often does an early set of renderings get built as drawn anyways?) But if the offices, condos, extra convention space etc make economic sense, something like them will eventually get built. If they didn't make economic sense, no casino was going to help them much. (Note that I didn't list the hotel part of that development here. That could indeed be directly affected by the presence of a casino.)
