What a gorgeous building. UoT has been building some beautiful buildings at its suburban campuses, both here in Scarborough (Instructional Centre) and in Mississauga (Hazel McCallion Learning Centre, Terrence Donnelly Health Sciences Centre). This one continues the trend. I've always been fond of U of T Scarborough in particular, I love the original Brutalist campus.

The building looks great, yes, but why is everything so far apart? It just seems to perpetuate the 'campus designed for cars' mentality of both this (UTSC) and UTM.

This building is right next the Instructional Centre, it would take maybe 20 seconds to go from one door to the next. The layout of UTSC is rather odd, but it was built adjacent to a creek so the topography isn't quite ideal. Despite this, I would not say it is at all designed for cars. The walk from the Social Sciences building to this one would span the campus but it would still only be a 10 minute walk probably (and not entirely outdoors). Nothing like the sprawling York Keele Campus.
UTM, I have only been once and it was better to navigate from building to building. They even had a small quad/courtyard-like space from what I recall.

It is worth noting my intense dislike for the wooden screen hiding what I'm guessing are gas meters or something similar, visible in photos 1, 5, 6, 11, and 12.

UTSC would do well to work with the City to re-design the Military Dr/Ellesmere Rd intersection, to improve upon the campus feel. In its current state, it is hostile to pedestrians, who should definitely be prioritized over cars. Removing the right-turn yield ramps at the NW and SE corners would be a good start, adding bike lanes on Military Dr would be a good follow-up. (As an aside, I would not be surprised if Ellesmere east of Morningside would be a good candidate for a road diet-- volume is really low all the way to its terminus at Kingston Rd.)

UTSC has a multi-year plan that does aim to totally remake not only the intersection, but the entire campus.

Yes, although I'm sure they would have liked to have used the LRT coming through as a catalyst for their other proposed changes.

The same needs to be done at Morningside & Military Trail. It has all of the same problems as that other intersection, but with fewer crosswalks. This intersection is right next to a new Pan Am venue, so this should have been rebuilt already. We were all urged to take transit during the games but they couldn't bother to put a crosswalk from that bus stop and make the intersection more pedestrian friendly. Therefore people have to cross the roads three times to safely get from the bus stop to the venue.
