A note on the progress which is visible in Red Mars' photos - for those who may not be familiar with this stage of the construction. The material which is delivered to the site, being dumped by the truck with the yellow cab and red body, is back-fill to provide a stable and secure base on which the shoring equipment can be deployed. A fairly common requirement for construction in brownfield sites.
