Toronto Tree Tower (Tmber, 18s, Penda)

Architecture firm Penda in collaboration with wood consultants Tmber proposes the Toronto Tree Tower, which is to be constructed using cross-laminated timber modules. Just... wow. I really hope this comes to fruition.

It's worth noting that on Tmber's website, the images which were related to the Toronto Tree Tower article in Dezeen are simply labeled as "Stackable High-Rise", and that the images have been created with a generic city backdrop. It's not so much that a Tree Tower has been proposed for Toronto, as much as it is Penda and Tmber would like to put one up here, there, or anywhere. Got some land?

That said, anyone got some land? I'd love to see a forest of these go up.

It's very aesthetically pleasing to the eye, but how long do you think it would last? Overgrowth and people who just don't like the "clutter" won't maintain it and eventually remove them to recapture space.. Then, all you'll be left with is a patch work design. I wonder what this building looks like without the greenery, just for comparison purposes.
Would be a welcome sight if it remained this way, but I find it hard to think the trees won't go the way of some of the streetscaping trees around the city...lasting a year or two before dying.

In any building such as this with trees as an essential part of the exterior, they are made part of the common elements, and are taken care of by the corporation. The buildings professionally maintain the greenery, as patchiness would affect everyone's resale value.

This has been rendered with lots more plants on the balconies than just those in built-in planters, mind you, so who knows just how much greenery there'd be in the end.

In any condo, you have exclusive use of a balcony but, you don't own it. There wouldn't be any recapturing of space allowed. Those tree would eventually get too large for the planters and die. Imagine the added cost of this amenity.
