Hamilton The Residences of Royal Connaught | ?m | 23s | Valery Homes | KNYMH

Only in the GTA could 600k be preceded by "only".

How about $1.9 Million for the 11-Bedroom Ravenscliffe Manor, Downtown Hamilton?

Or maybe the old home of a Lt. Gov. of Ontario for $2.9 Million? (also downtown Hamilton)

Or better-yet, a Historically-Designated Stone Rowhouse (also Downtown) for $350,000 (THIS is the best deal in town if you ask me)

OH.. there are better deals! Olympia Apartments has two-bed condos for sale for under $150,000. They're good-sized, too, as it was built in the early 70s. The building also has a modern indoor pool, gym & steam room (all reno'd in the last 5 years). Only issue is condo fees, they can go as high as $500/month in that bldg!
However, it's in a great hood steps to St Joe's Hosp. and the current GO (TH&B) Station.

I'd probably find myself at the Winking Judge way too often if I bought there. Great location as far as Hamilton goes. With the new full-service supermarket Oceans moving into Jackson Square, all the necessities will be close at hand.

I love Hamilton too, good town, great people. They have a beautiful but somewhat rundown downtown that is sadly underused since all the new developments on the mountain really took off. Once regular GO trains are connected to Union station I think that Hamilton has the potential to really take off, residential real estate is so cheap especially downtown. A large 3bed/2bath/2 level PH in the historic Pigott Building downtown (converted to condos in the early 90's) can be had for only $600K.

Once Hamilton gets regular GO trains to Union Station I am going to buy as many currently cheap properties I can possibly buy.

I hate the idea of living in subdivisions - Mississauga, Brampton, Markham, Vaughn etc... - Downtown Hamilton is the perfect substitute to Central Toronto. I know a lot of Echo Boomers who think the same.

Is it wrong for me to compare Hamilton to Brooklyn or Queens?

More Details

More details via CBC Hamilton's Paul Wilson:

" there are to be three towers beside and behind the Connaught – 36 storeys, 33 storeys, 24 storeys. ... There are to be 708 units in all. ... There will be two levels [of parking] underground and seven camouflaged levels above.
...the sales centre in the restored lobby will open by late summer."

Royal Connaught facelift is under wraps

"The public will soon get a glimpse inside the Royal Connaught for the first time in almost a decade.

And buyers will get their first shot at snapping up one of the 122 condos in the first phase of the Residences at the Royal Connaught when the units go on sale June 4."

via The Hamilton Spectator (nice photo update of the lobby with the article)

Here's a video from CHCH about it
