I've always wondered how much developers profit from all the steel etc from these demo sites--anyone wanna give us an estimate/sq ft?

I don't have an estimate per square foot, as it would typically be sold by weight. By if you sell metal down at Turtle Island off of Cherry St. the going rate is around $100/tonne if you have a contract with them.

But at this volume, you'd probably get a still better deal.

New camera, a Sony A6000! Absolutely stellar night capabilities. Meanwhile, I'm uploading my pics at 1280 pixels wide now as well, instead of at 960. The old forum and front page stories could only show images as wide as 960 pixels before, but we can go bigger now, so I am.

I have a sinking feeling we're going to look back on this in 30 years and regret the fact that this didn't have a heritage designation. I'm not saying it's a modernist Temple Building or anything, but it's one of the more handsome of its genre.

Agreed. It could have been vastly improved with some simple changes, like replacing that crud, rather than an entire re-clad/ill conceived hat addition.

The cladding is special - and likely challenging to reproduce or match (unlike brick). As they have to put new surfaces on, I suppose they were stuck removing it.

I don't see a developer going through the expense of removing the precast lentils and the rest of the concrete if it was in good condition.
