I walked past today and nearly had a coronary when I saw the demo of this building - thank God it's being preserved. It really is handsome.

I agree, not exactly "preserved" but it's as close as what's possible.
Concert originally wanted to save the building but it was not sound enough. So, the compromise; they will rebuild the structure using existing materials (bricks, metals, etc.). If you look at the building mock-ups you can clearly see the Church St. South design strays away from the Berczy design and mirrors the existing structure they are taking down (brick-by-brick).
You have to give Concert credit, most builders would not even bother to build the existing architecture into the design, or even reuse existing materials.

Yea, got the official letter from Concert this week indicating end of demolition and start of construction according to Tarion rules. Not sure if its true, but close enough.

They are drilling piles so I guess this counts as 'construction".
